Campaign Update, October 2009

15:26PM on October 06 2009

Fall is my favorite time of year. The air is crisp and cool. The leaves begin to turn, and Oklahoma is more beautiful by the day. The holidays are inching closer, and the time of year when we settle in with our families in celebration of a year gone by is just around the corner. Fall is a time of thanksgiving and reflection, of football games and family time, and I love every minute of it.

For me, October is also a time of celebration. On Tuesday, Oct. 13, my annual rock n’ roll birthday party is being held at River Oaks Golf Club in Oklahoma City. This event features a live band, good food, and, best of all, good friends. The party runs from 6 to 8 p.m., and Linda and I would love to see you there. If you can’t attend but would like to sponsor the event, please go to www.edmondson2010.com/birthday to make a contribution.

Fall is also a time when we remember those who do not share our good fortune. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and for the past several years, my office has hosted a ceremony on the steps of the state capitol in honor and remembrance of the victims of this crime. The ceremony features a prayer for peace from a local clergyman and music provided by a children’s choir. During the ceremony, we also light the dome of the capitol in purple as a visible beacon of hope for survivors. I invite you to join me at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday on the south steps of the capitol for this very moving event.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This Saturday, the 2009 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is being held in Bricktown. Each year, hundreds of Oklahomans come together in honor of their loved ones and in the hopes of finding a cure for this devastating disease. The Race also raises money for breast cancer research. You can learn more about the event and how you can help by going to www.komencentralok.org.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t also say thank you to those of you who have already contributed to my campaign, financially or otherwise. We just finished another very strong financial quarter, and that’s because of you. Linda and I especially want to thank those of you who have opened your homes to us by hosting events in our honor. We have enjoyed meeting new friends, and we are continually humbled by the support and encouragement we have received.

We have much to be thankful for during this beautiful Oklahoma autumn, and until we meet again, please know that Linda and I count you among our many blessings.
